Bed very comfortable and shower excellent. Owners Phil and Caroline are on-site if needed but respect your privacy. 

Great place to visit Northumberland, County Durham and the coast. Thank you we will be back as we have fallen in love with the area again and were sad to leave.

We have just returned from a fantastic 2 night stay for our anniversary at Fox Lodge and wow. These lodges are beautifully decorated and to a very high standard, lovely welcome from the owners on arrival and a very thoughtful welcome pack from milk to bubbly 🍾 shops, pubs and restaurants all within easy reach. 

For us it was the log fire hot tub which made it extra special, relaxing with stunning views as far as the eye could see. Thank you, we will be back but 3 nights next time.

Stunning!!! The lodge was immaculate and had everything we needed. Phil and Caroline were brilliant hosts, checking we had everything. The hot tub was ready for us arriving and the lodge was decorated for my daughters birthday beautifully. 

The view at night was spectacular in itself. Waking up to watch deer in the field was an added bonus. Couldn’t of had a more perfect time there making memories. Thank you Phil and Caroline for such a wonderful experience.

We have just returned from the most wonderful stay in Fox Lodge for our wedding anniversary. Every year we go away to a rural retreat for some down time and dog walking, and this is the best accommodation we have visited yet. The accommodation itself is kitted out perfectly with all the mod cons needed to make your stay comfortable. 

The attention to detail from the owners is great, with a bottle of chilled prosecco waiting on arrival along with milk and locally sourced snacks. The wood fired hot tub was perfect to sit in on an evening and watch the sun go down over the gorgeous views before the stars came out. The first bag of wood is provided, after which you can purchase more using an honesty box system, though we didn't use this as we had brought our own supply. 

The bed was extremely comfortable and the water pressure in the waterfall shower was ideal! Finally, a big thank you to the owner, who immediately posted a necklace I had left back to me with no expectation of repayment for postage, which is incredibly kind. I have no doubt we will be back in the future!

Having stayed at both lodges me and my partner can’t fault this place at all. There really isn’t much difference between either of the lodges the layout and facilities being completely identical. The lodge facilities are everything that you need for a self catering holiday. 

The bathroom has a fantastic shower with a waterfall shower head and if that doesn’t cut it you also have the hot tub on the decking with incredible views when relaxing on an evening. 

The bed has to be one of the comfiest we’ve had as it isn’t just a standard double you get in a few holiday homes we’ve experienced previously but a lovely king size. There is an information booklet upon arrival which we found really informative regarding walks which really helped as we were holidaying with a hyper spaniel. 

On both stays we were greeted by Phil who couldn’t make you feel more comfortable and welcoming. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Where to start about this absolute gem of a location?…..Lodges are a 5 star quality and the decor has fantastic synergy with the setting which really adds to the experience.

We stayed at the aptly named Pheasant Lodge. 

Top marks for cleanliness, and practicality…..a very well laid out plot. The wood fired hot tub tops off the visit ,and what a view from it……straight over open fields and woods without another person in sight…..couldn’t recommend highly enough !

Just got back from a lovely stay at the fox lodge at wood house. 

So quiet and peaceful, best nights sleep ever. Calm and relaxing. Kitchen is fully equipped. Amazing shower. 

Hosts warm and welcoming. Nothing too much trouble. Plenty of car parking. So nice having the hot tub. Really easy to use and heat up.

The Pheasant Lodge was a romantic and idyllic getaway. It is modern, clean and stylishly decorated. The views are stunning - looking out onto open fields with sheep. The bed is ever so comfortable. While the hot tub is a fantastic treat. The hosts were very warm and welcoming.

I was recommended to go here by work colleagues and booked a 2 night stay for my partners birthday and we were both very impressed with our lodge!!. The location is perfect as it’s close enough drive to shops and restaurants etc but situated in a quiet and beautiful landscape. 

When we arrived we saw the hot tub and couldn’t wait to jump in :-). The lodge itself was immaculate and we had a welcome pack that included fudge, cookies, jam, cashew nuts, coffee and tea and also a lovely bottle of Prosecco. There was a very informative book that contained all the information you need regarding the appliances as well as recommendations on places to go and restaurants. 

The room itself was spacious and had a beautiful view overlooking woodland. The bathroom was immaculate and clean - the shower itself was amazing, me and my partner agreed it was best shower ever! We had a visit from the owner Phil who introduced himself and asked if everything was ok and if needed anything which was a lovely personal touch - my partner had proposed to me only a few moments earlier so I was a bit giddy but next day we came back to find an engagement card on doorstep which again was a very kind gesture. 

The bed itself was very comfortable and the sofa was too - we considered taking that home with us lol. Even though the weather wasn’t great we had an amazing stay here and the pheasant lodge will always be in our memory and we will most certainly return. Thank you so much to the owners Phil and Caroline you have a fantastic premises. 

If you are looking for a special break away then Wood house cottages and lodge is the place to book!!

Our first time staying at “ The Old Stables “ a lovely conversion out in the country side. Peace and quiet all around. And I’m pretty sure it won’t be our last. We couldn’t have wished for better accommodation - it was beautiful.

Large kitchen with everything you need / large dining table / spacious lounge area. Lovely conservatory and outdoor seating area / garden space. Which will be great for summer visits.

The weather wasn’t appropriate this time. The bedrooms all have en suites. One with lovely roll top bath. It even has a tennis court. We will be back as they say.

We have just returned home from the most amazing 3 days away for Christmas in the beautiful pheasant lodge! It was perfect! The location is stunning, the views you would never get bored of, the lodge was filled with such good quality furniture and accessories. 

The log burner hot tub was stunning, with it being winter and such cold temperature it took us around 4 hours before it was ready which we was more than happy, much quicker to warm up then the ones we’ve hired at home before. The lodge had everything you needed. We would highly recommend wood house. 

Phil politely greeted us on arrival and answered our questions. We had a walk to a local pub too the manor, a 25 minute walk. All channels on TV too to accommodate for all ages. We was so sad to have to leave. Thank you for making our Christmas so magical!

It’s a bit special to sit in a hot tub in the dark and look up at a million stars above you, these lodges allow you to do that. 

But that’s not all, we sat on the deck with a drink and saw deer, pheasants and had lambs come right up to the fence. 

A great place for walking and some good restaurants nearby. 

That’s if you actually want to leave the lodge, nature, scenery and the level of comfort in the lodge itself makes it hard to tear yourself away.

We've just enjoyed a wonderful week in beautiful Fox Lodge at Wood House, everything was just perfect. 

The location is great, close to Durham and the surrounding Northumberland countryside and only an hour or so from the spectacular coast. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, we couldn't of asked for more. 

The views from the private hot tub at the Lodge were gorgeous, as we're our four legged neighbours 🙂.

Staying in the Cottage which is next door to the old stables. Very well appointed, spotlessly clean, lovely and warm, bed very comfortable, great shower, easy to find, right in the middle of the countryside so very quiet. 

Owners live in the adjoining property and are very helpful and informative. They have provided a very useful guide to the appliances in the property and details of the local area. 

There are sheep in the field above the cottage and horses across the car park. Dogs must be kept on the lead. 

Would highly recommend and will certainly book The Cottage again as so much I had planned to visit is currently not open due to lockdown regulations. Definitely 12 out of 10!!

Been here twice now ,it's a wonderful place, there on the own so very private and very relaxing. Many walks around, pub up the road which is good for food .

We nipped into Consett and that was cheap and we had some amazing food. The lodge is so nice, and the added pack they leave you is a beautiful touch.

Lovely short break in The Old Stables at Wood House. Perfect accommodation for 6 adults (3 couples) and dog. Warm, comfortable, well equipped with excellent grounds too as well as a lovely self-contained courtyard garden. Lots of things to see and do just a short drive away.

Whilst Northumberland has a lot of sheep which can be a worry for dog owners, the riverside walk in Shotley Bridge just a few minutes away was a godsend - idyllic scenery and perfect for dogs to run free. Many thanks to Phil and Caroline for a great stay and we'd certainly recommend to others.

We had a wonderful stay in Fox Lodge at Wood House. On arrival, we received a lovely welcome pack and had lots of information to help us plan our time during our holiday. Philip was really welcoming and helpful - nothing was a bother and he always seemed happy to help. 

The hot tub was amazing! We enjoyed it cooler, in the hot weather, and lovely and warm, when the weather wasn’t so warm - it was a labour of love and well worth it! 

The lodge was a calm, serene place for us, with the only noisy neighbours the friendly lambs and sheep in the field next door! We will definitely return.

We have just spent a week in The Old Stables and we had a lovely holiday. The location is in beautiful countryside but its not far to local villages (by car, unless you are very fit and enjoy hiking) and a little further away is Consett with lots of facilities. 

The accommodation was perfect as our party consisted of 4 adults, including my 84 year old mum with limited mobility and a gent with downs syndrome with poor eyesight and unsteady gait. 

The property is spacious, nicely presented and very well equipped. There was a lovely welcome pack of locally produced goodies to greet us. The owners whom live on site are very friendly, conscientious and kind, going above and beyond when our vehicle broke down and towing us back to the cottage, no mean feat as the roads are up hill and down dale.... allowing a late check out as we had to wait for the recovery vehicle. 

We will be back next year with our son and his family. Highly recommended 5 ⭐ without a doubt.
